Prominent UPS solutions provider, Power Control Ltd, is delighted to have been shortlisted for two categories in this year’s London Construction & Design Awards. As the most prestigious construction awards in London, they recognise the front runners of innovation and sustainability within the industry.

After winning the New Design/Build Data Centre category of the esteemed DCS Awards earlier in the year for a forward thinking, modular UPS installation, Power Control hope to continue their success at these awards.

Power Control is honoured to be placed alongside some of the biggest names in the industry. Fully committed to sustainability, the company has not only been shortlisted in the Sustainable Construction category but also the Smart Technology/Solution of the Year category for its contribution to operationalising an innovative and completely off grid, hydrogen fuel cell charging system.

The project saw Power Control, in partnership with a renewable energy giant, design a containerised microgrid using uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) to create a stable 230V. Enough to imitate a mains grid supply and start up the fuel cell inverter.

Whilst it would have been possible to use a generator to provide the grid connection, the focus of this project was to deliver green energy in an innovative way. The UPS and fuel cell combination is virtually silent and emission free in comparison to a generator setup. With a large focus on cutting carbon emissions, planning permission for a generator backup supply to such projects and events is often refused because of noise pollution and fumes.

Further to this, the microgrid also catered for a sudden increase in load demand. For example, if 100KW is required from the fuel cell there would be a slight delay in provided that power. The UPS bridges that gap and provides the power instantaneously.

As the biggest industry event of the year, the London Construction Awards is the perfect platform for Power Control to showcase its project specialisms. The glittering ceremony will bring together solution providers, contractors, architects, civil engineers, developers and local authorities.

All winners and runners up will be announced during event, which takes place on the 27^th November 2019 at the Novotel, West London.
