All about the BORRI INGENIO UPS
The BORRI INGENIO was introduced in 2014 superseding the B8033 and B8031, previously on the market for the last 7 years.
Many UPS manufacturers have chosen to compromise the integrity of their design by using none segregated PCB mounted control and power boards. BORRI have kept reliability, access and footprint to the forefront of the design brief. This contributes to the following advantages.
Front Access Design
The BORRI INGENIO range from 30kVA – 200kVA has been designed for front access for maintenance and servicing. Hence components can be correctly inspected upon maintenance visits.
This also provides the opportunity to mount the UPS flush with switchgear and walls reducing the footprint required. UPS that don’t have front access design, require side and rear access to maintain, inspect and replace components. This increases the space needed for installation and will reduce reliability if access prevents correct preventative maintenance.
Reliability
Electronics are reliable. The selection of component and design especially with Power electronics, however, does influence the UPS reliability.
Many UPS manufacturers choose to design in reliability but only up to a certain tolerance within a specific environmental condition. BORRI have chosen the electronic, mechanical and chemical components to have a higher tolerance than most applications require. Hence the UPS system is designed to have a longer operating life span.
To reduce costs, other UPS designs mount key chemical and electrical components on a single PCB or compartment. Increasing failure rates and repair costs.
Key components within the INGENIO are mechanically segregated. This reduces contamination between chemical and electrical components, increasing safety and reliability of the UPS.
Electrical noise and filtering
By the nature of design, UPS produce electrical noise (EMC and RFI). Many UPS designs include EMC and RFI filters that reduce the electrical noise within the conversion process but not under all operating modes.
BORRI invest in industrial filters that are directly mounted on the UPS input and output providing a higher level of protection under various UPS operating modes. This also aids to meet compliance with many electrical regulations other than EU standards.
Ingenio static switch
The INGENIO uses a true electrical static switch mounted in a dual configuration. While many manufacturers choose to reduce cost using mechanical switches within the UPS static switch design, BORRI uses dual thyristor banks. This provides true ‘Static’ switch array, with synchronised electronic control and also adheres to industry regulation such as HTM compliance.
BORRI efficiency
The BORRI INGENIO is designed to achieve class leading double conversion efficiency. While UPS can achieve efficiency over 97% this possible only if the UPS is not in double conversion. The BORRI Ingenio achieves up to and over 96% in double conversion mode.
The BORRI INGENIO range has also been developed to incorporate larger internal battery chargers. This provide 3 main advantages to the end user,
1) Larger battery autonomy is available with INGENIO range
2) No additional battery chargers are required increasing UPS efficiency
3) The batteries on the INGENIO range of UPS will not be undercharged increasing their lifespan
