Power Control Ltd. is one of the most trustworthy & reliable emergency power solution companies in the UK.
As the UK’s largest privately owned, independent UPS & power protection specialist, we have been delivering uninterruptible power solutions for over 25 years.
The early years
Back in the early 1990s significant advances in technology were made and with this households and businesses became increasingly dependent on the use of electronic equipment. Our current chairman predicted that the move to new technologies would signal a global need for power protection and off the back of his intuition he set up Power Control Ltd.
The business was established just in time to welcome the telecoms boom, which followed the centralisation of PBX (Private Branch Exchange) for internal communication. It was from this great telecoms shift that Power Control won its first large tender, which helped position the company as a UK market leader in the field of power protection.
Continued growth
Awareness of the vital role of power protection solutions within businesses continued through the rest of the 1990s. Our business went from strength to strength, winning a number of sizeable projects that included not just the supply of UPS solutions and other backup power equipment but also required UPS installation and the regular servicing and maintenance of the equipment.
To support our growth, we employed our own team of engineers and set up a dedicated Power Maintenance Division to offer a complete range of UPS maintenance & service contracts. A few short years later, we also moved to our current premises in Eckington, Sheffield where we were able to hold increased stock and production facilities.
Showcasing our UPS technology expertise
Our impressive commitment to the power protection industry, saw us become the exclusive representative for UPS manufacturer AEC in the UK in 2000.
Trading as AEC UK for the next nine years, we worked with leading European manufacturing partners to release the T2000 and T2003 UPS series. With some of these units still operating in the field today, we continue to provide support and maintenance for these.
As our trade and reseller network continued to grow we introduced a sister company, Energy Systems Ltd. Launched to provide extended technical design support, Energy Systems delivered bespoke solutions including full electrical installation, specialist switchgear, gas power standby generator sets and small data centre solutions with centralised static switch infrastructure.
Following this, we were successful in winning several prestigious projects including the supply of 1.6MVA to protect the runway of lighting at an international airport, the supply of full electrical infrastructure protection for IG Group and the development of a bespoke solution to support laser eye equipment, which was rolled out across leading eye clinics nationwide.
Aggressive growth
In 2009 we became the exclusive representative in the UK for Borri Spa – the internationally acclaimed manufacturer of power protection equipment. As part of our plan to position the Borri brand in the UK as the market leading UPS product, we officially changed our name to Borri Ltd.
Throughout our trading years as Borri Ltd we secured a number of high profile contracts including a data centre project worth £1.3 million for Portsmouth City Council and the install of 4MVA of UPS systems into a new, privately owned, colocation data centre in Reading.
We also became the first UK UPS company to offer a three year warranty as standard for its full range of Borri three phase UPS systems.
Investments were made into not just our team but also our premises where we expanded our site to include a state of the art three phase witness facility and test area.
By 2014, we were celebrating our 20th year of trading with sales orders reaching a record £10million for the year.
All round flexibility
Over the years we have invested heavily in our internal resources to enable us to provide the most practical, flexible and reliable service in the industry.
In the last five years both our DC and AC engineering teams have more than doubled, to support them we have also significantly expanded our in house service support department and have a dedicated health and safety resource.
We have also added to our fleet of vehicles and invested in the very latest PPE equipment to ensure that each of our engineers is fully equipped at all times to be able to meet a wider set of immediate service requirements.
Committed to continuous development, we provide all our staff with regular structured training across all areas of the business to ensure that we not only understand our core functions but are also aware of the complete Power Control offering.
A little extra help
Recognising the need for businesses to reduce capital expenditure, whilst still responding quickly to business growth and change, Power Control has developed a range of leasing and traditional hire purchase agreements.
